Supplies for Puppy
What supplies do I need to have for my new puppy?
Maxine has been doing excellent in her new home and is just about housebroken in just a few days.
Myles gets along with her very well.

- collar — A collar is an essential item to attach rabies and identification tags to your puppy.
- leash — A leash is required for walking your puppy and keeping him/her under control. In many areas, it is also required to have your dog on leash in public.
- food & water bowls — There are many different types of bowls to choose. Select the best for your situation.
- food — It is essential that you provide your puppy with a balanced diet. Be sure to choose a premium dog food with small amounts of filler, and remember that table scraps can be detrimental to your puppy's health.
- treats — In moderation, treats can be beneficial as a reward for your puppy.
- containers for food/treat storage — Use storage containers to keep your dog's food fresh and bug-free.
- crate — A crate is your puppy's personal space. It is also used to help train your puppy, especially with house-training.
- bed — A bed allows your puppy to have his/her own personal spot to sleep. With young puppies, a towel can substitute for a bed.
- toys — Toys help to entertain your puppy and keep them from becoming bored (and thus potentially destructive and restless). Be sure that you select at least one toy that will be sturdy enough to accompany your pet even when unsupervised.
- chew toys — Rawhides, compressed bones, and chew toys help to satisfy your dogs natural need to chew. They also help during the teething stage. Be sure to never give your dog meat bones from the dinner table.
- pooper scooper/baggies — Remember to always clean up after your dog.
- grooming tools — You must brush your puppy's coat to keep it healthy and mat-free.
- nail clippers — Periodically, you will need to have your puppy's nails clipped.
- stain and odor neutralizer — All dogs will have accidents or get sick in their lives. Always keep some on hand!
- shampoo — Your puppy will eventually need a bath because of dirt or odor.
